Hail, tavern fellows, and welcome back to Indie Games Tavern. Today we’ll talk about a new game mode that just become a seasonal game mode in the latest update of Clash Royale – called Merge Tactics. Years ago, we played Clash Royale a lot! But through time, works keep pushing us away from this big title of Supercell. Until recently, we found out that there’s a new game mode in Clash Royale, we checked it, we felt impressed, we wanted to talk about it sooner than now, but we afraid that it wouldn’t survive for a few months… We were wrong, it just became a permanent game mode in Clash Royale, with seasonal updates each month, and we must talk about it now, better late than never!
Firstly, in this article, we won’t talk about graphics, sounds or performance etc. as usual. Because, as you may know already, Merge Tactics has everything of Clash Royale, haha.
About gameplay, if you’re a auto-battler games fan, or specially Teamfight Tactics, Dota Autochess fan, you’ll find this game mode is not just familiar but also very interesting with some twists that made it a fast-paced auto-battler, each game is just about 8 minutes long.
You just need 2 of the same 1-star unit to make it 2-star, and so on for 3-star, 4-star unit. No reroll shop, no lock shop, no level up to be able to put more unit. You start with maximum 2 units on your board, and it increases automatically by round, until reaching 6 units.
It’s a fast-paced, but it has enough depth for you. Many synergies are there for you to figure out which one is the best, or worst. Placement on the board also matter, the assassins will jump to the backline (as in the video above), be careful with them. We’ll let you figure out the rest of synergies in game, try it, because it’s worth!
